Building a Vista x64 Computer

So my housemate got a new rig today, nutso, I’ll post the specs up when I have some more time.  Anyway, he decided on Vista 64 because he got 8 Gig of ram.  After installing Vista, setting up his account, he was asked to reboot, and upon rebooting, the pc just stopped on a message saying:

“Starting Windows Vista”

“Something else I don’t remember about a launcher”

Sooooooooooooooooo, after half an hour of bios tinkering, and then googling that screen message, we tried to repair the vista install.  That seemed to be the answer on most forums.  But the version we had of the repairer wasn’t compatable with the version of Vista (go figure).

So I made the suggestion of looking in the bios for ACPI, and low and behold there it was.  Turns out his motherboard can’t run a 64 bit OS properly without it turned on.  So simply enabling it in the bios fixed the problem.  This might help some people in the future, so thought I’d post it.  Now to try and sort out his wireless card………………

Jimi says Bye.
